Title: Prima LT with Mackie Onyx Mixer HELP!!!!!!
Post by nlang916 on Feb 26th, 2006 at 6:28pm
I just purchased an Prima LT to use for Voiceover
work. I've no idea how to get it setup with the Mixer I
have. Do you know where I might find info regarding
this? perhaps a diagram of some sort. I see two sets
of XLR jacks on the back of the Prima (Audio Input and Audio Output), but havent a clue as to how these get connected to the mixer, and where. Any help would be greatly
appreciated!!!!

The mic is supposed to be connected to one of the mixer input.
the output of the mixer has to be connected to the input of the codec (prima) who is the female xlr on the unit.
if you need also to hear the far end, (bi-directionnal), you need to connect the audio ouput of the prima somewhere.
it's hard to say where without details of your mixer.
technically - you can connect active speakers to teh prima outputs - but the sound of this speaker will be "heard" by your mic.
the best way is to feed the prima out into your mixer again - but the channel if the prima out has NO to be feed again to the main output  !!! so if you have some 2TR input that you can feed only to the heaphones (monitor/cr/heaphones on the mixer) that's the best way - if you have groups - you can use them also, there are also other configurations you can do with auxilary but not so easy - so tell us what is your mixer.

Ohhh also my mixer is the Mackie Onyx 1220. I go from a Shure KSM27 mic to a Joe Meek VC3Q Preamp. Next I go from a TRS out (on the Preamp) to the TRS on channel one (1) on the mackie. So i really need to know where to go from the Codec to the Mackie Mixer for bi-directional operation. i.e. being able to hear my client giving me direction through the codec. Thanx

Ok - if we are working with th 1220, you can:
connect the XLR main out to the PRima in with a pair of XLRM-XLRF cable (for stereo)
the ouput of the prima will be connected to inputs 11-12 of the mixer (for example) by a pair of XLRF-PLST cable.
now, near the bar graph meter, you have a couple of buttons, push the alt3-4 and the main mix buttons
keep the "assign to main mix=bottom button) unpressed !
pressed the MUTE button of the channel 11-12 who is the prima return channel and open the fader
unpress the mic button (MUTE).
in fact every channel who is not muted will be sent to the prima.
that's all.
I forgot - put headphones in the phones connector.
if you wants a diagram-scheme - email me and I will reply you with a picture
